How to Make a Fall Floral Wreath

If you didn’t already know, door wreaths are not just for the holidays anymore. I’ve seen pretty seasonal wreaths all over Pinterest lately, but never realized how easy they are to make. Choosing my fall color scheme for my first wreath was half the fun, especially since Michael’s is my favorite kind of toy store. This project only took about 20 minutes to make, so I’m looking forward to making one for other seasons!

Supplies Needed:

  • Styrofoam floral wreath
  • Faux flowers (look for sales at Michael’s to get up to 75% off)
    • You’ll need a good sized bouquet full
  • Wire cutters

1. Cut your flower stem about 1/2 inch from the flower to you have enough to go into the Styrofoam.IMG_3957-0

2. Arrange your flowers around the outside of the Styrofoam to get a sense for where you want everything. Begin by sticking the short stems into the foam. Place the flowers close together so the wreath looks full.

3. Make sure the side and outside of the foam is covered. You may need to arrange the flowers slightly by sticking the stems in at a different angle.

4. I chose to highlight the burgundy flowers by placing them together. You can choose ribbon, a bow or nothing, depending on your preference.

5. Hang it loud and proud for everyone to see!

Making a Coffee Table Out of an Old Bench

I found this little bench at Kobey’s Swap Meet and thought it would make a perfect coffee table. After a year and half, it’s now the nightstand in our guest bedroom and eventually I want to repaint it, add a protective layer, and put it outside for my succulents to sit on.

DIY Wine Cork Magnets

These magnets are very cute and super simple to make! All you need are a few wine corks and a magnetic strip. I would recommend looking for more heavy duty stick on magnets because these can’t hold anything too heavy but they work on photos and smaller items. Be careful cutting the corks–I used a knife but if you have something that would work better definitely use that!

DIY Rainbow Fish Costume

For this year’s Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, we decided to be Rainbow Fish. Here’s the final outfit!

SUPPLIES

Shoes
White canvas shoes – we found some for $9 at Michael’s
Acryllic paint – we used 1/2 bottle from Michael’s
Glitter – we chose turquoise from Michael’s

Take the shoelaces out before painting the shoes. Paint sections and sprinkle glitter on before it dries.

Rainbow Fish Top
Tank top
Sequins – we chose a mixture of blues from Michael’s
Fabric – we bought 1/4 yard of four colors and a half yard of the main color we wanted to use from Joann’s.

Cut fabric into circles approximately 4 inches in diameter. Hot glue cycles onto shirt, overlapping them. Hot glue sequins on the straps. *If your shirt is stretchy, make sure to put it over a chair or have someone hold their arms inside to stretch it, otherwise the fabric circles will pop off when you put it on. We learned this the hard way!

TUTU
Tulle – we bought 8 rolls from the Michael’s wedding section and didn’t have any left over. Keep in mind that sparkly tulle has a lot less fabric than regular tulle.
Elastic – 1/4 inch will work great

To measure how long the tulle strips should be, fold a portion in half and place next to your waist. Make them double the length you want to stick out from the elastic. For a puffier tutu that sticks straight out, cute them shorter. Fit the elastic to your waist and tie in a circle. After tying on all of the tulle strips, you’ll probably need to re-tie and cut the elastic because it tends to stretch out.

Fold the tulle strip in half and loop the open end over the elastic and through the folded end. Don’t pull too tight so you can move the tulle around and fluff it up.

Use eyelash glue to attach sequins to your arms, chest and face. And don’t forget bright colored lipstick!
